— WHAT IS GEORGE THINKING?

Nokia is pushing a campaign for its N8 series smart phone using the emotions of a blind person.  I feel uncomfortable with this for two reasons.

SMART PHONE WAR

First, I find it lazy on Nokia’s part that the best phone feature they could come up with is just an optimized camera. The camera might be amazing but it is not enough in today’s market.

In less than a year another phone manufacturer would have topped that.   It’s no news that Nokia’s market share is being eaten up by Apple, Blackberry and even HTC.

I would have expected for them to go back to the drawing board and work out what their problem is and new strategies for that.  Nokia’s big problem now is lack of innovation and user integration.  Gone are the days of phone hardware being the primary reason of buying a phone.

The user interface is becoming more important.  We want to know if the phone has Google maps, or plays flash online, or has a good movie store.  If the camera is great but the phone is too rigid and not fun then who cares.

Apple has its App Store and Music.  Blackberry has its email system and HTC has its growing Android market.  Nokia has what?  The operating system has looked the same for years.

Clear Pill advert- Limitless movie poster

Usually movies are pushed before their releases with TV ads, cinema ads, newspapers, magazines and all other media channels we are used to seeing.  Well the movie Limitless does it differently.

On the Jubilee line London underground train was where I found the movie poster disguising itself as a real medicine advert.  If you’ve watched the trailer you would understand why it is so funny.  It’s a play of the film’s plot.

I never heard of the Ugandan film industry before today and getting to see the trailer for ‘Who killed Captain Alex’ has killed me with laughter.  The trailer is meant to be for an action style movie but I say call it a comedy.  But everyone has to start somewhere I guess, hope they learn real fast though.

Manzai

Manzai is a Japanese comedy stand up which involves two acts instead of one.  One of the performers acts normal and the funny or crazy one.  The goal is that both are trying to create a joke out of an imagined situation like a customer calling to order pizza and there’s some sort of misunderstanding with the order.  I’m sure anyone can imagine how that can be made into something funny.

I’d never seen anything like it before and the ones I saw looked to work pretty well but what do I know.  It doesn’t make sense if I don’t understand what they’re saying.

You are woman? French connection 2

Was waiting for the train a couple of days ago and was fortunate to come across a new French Connection advert “You Are Woman?” which I’m in love with.

I later found out that its a full campiagn to for its latest male and female collection.  What I love about it is that its so clever,  unconventional and anti-sterotype.  Its mixing personality with real. The ads are saying these are real people and you should be too.  You should be different and still look sexy.

My favourite is the woman sitting on the sidewalk eating a burger in a sweet dress in sexy stockings.  Two things I like, the burger and the girl.  Who said you cant have your cake and eat it.

Nigella's chocolate raspberry heart cake

A good idea for Vals or if you’re just hungry

Not long ago I made this wonderful cake from my Nigella cookbook and I have to mark it as one of her best recipes I’ve made to date.

I never knew chocolate and raspberries go so well together.  The chocolate has this sweet dark heavy taste in your mouth while the raspberry is cool, wet and a little bit tangy.

Wait, that’s not all.  The middle of the cake has a raspberry whip cream filling.  It’s not a sweet filling but it compliments the cake very well.

If I’ve tempted you enough here’s the recipe.

The Green Hornet movie poster 2011

I’ll just come out and say that I quite enjoyed the Green Hornet.  I think it’s a good thing that it used comedy more than going for the action which would have been difficult to do for the 2 leading characters (Britt Reid and Kato played by Seth Rogen and Jay Chou) who aren’t really super action oriented like Superman or Ironman.

Not all the jokes work that’s for sure and there were a few dull scenes but overall I think Britt Reid’s stupidity mixed with Kato’s coolness and awesome kung fu made the film work in a strange way.

In fact I think the real star of the show is Christoph Waltz who plays the villain Chudnofsky and damn he plays it so well.  You might remember Christoph from Inglorious Basterds (a movie I hated) who gave an awesome opening scene in the movie.

Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes

I was interested in seeing the new Avengers series titled Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes after enjoying one of the great series that combined popular super heroes together which was the Justice League.

I wanted to see if Marvel’s Avengers good match up with DC’s Justice League with everything it did so right especially with emotional content and difficult choices some characters had to make.  The Avengers super heroes comprise of Iron Man, Captain America, Ant Man, The Hulk, Thor and Wasp.

Looking for the best place to watch the episodes I came across the Marvel channel on YouTube where it had videos of the Avengers series but they were called Micro series.  They were 5-minute episodes that gave a nice background to every character and what brought the team together.

X-Men: First Class movie cast picture

After seeing this picture on the web I thought the photoshop pirates are at it again but wow Hollywood is really brave for trying something new or really stupid for creating what looks like a joke.

Maybe it’s just me but the cast just look so odd.  James McAvoy looks so creepy in that hair cut, the blue guy who I’m guess is beast looks like an extra from Avatar and Emma frost in white looks like she just got kicked off from a Disney animation.

I hope I’m wrong about the movie since I’m not familiar with the First Class comic series but since it’s directed by Matthew Vaughn (director of Kick-Ass) I have some hope.  X-Men: First Class is out June 2.

FC Barcelona Logo

Are you one of those people that think Barcelona are just over rated or playing with men against a pack of boys in the Spanish league.  You’re not alone or maybe I’m just the only one.

Yes I give the Catalan boys credit with all their gifted stars like Messi, Xavi & Iniesta but I think they don’t have any real competition in La Liga.  I see the Spanish teams come to Barcelona ready to be beaten without a fight.  You don’t see any emotion of resistance from them.  I mean yes they are good but I think if they were in a tougher league let’s say the English Premier League they won’t have it so easy.

Spiderman costume Tobey Maguire Spiderman Andrew Garfield

A new image from the new Spiderman reboot surfaced this week and I think its looks really badass.  Don’t get me wrong I love the old Toby Maguire suit but the new one worn by our new Spidey Andrew Garfield just looks to have more finesse. It’s darker in colour especially the blue and the texture just looks so cool with all the detail.

There you have it.  Look forward to the next Spiderman movie in summer 2012.  I can’t wait.

Menstruation machine

I had this weird look on my face when I came across the video Menstruation Machine from my random browsing on the internet.  It had this nice catchy Japanese tune to it which I liked and as always if it’s Japanese it has to be crazily weird or you could say simply original.

The video follows a boy called Takashi who builds the machine because he wants to understand how it feels to be a girl both aesthetically and biologically.  The machine is built to simulate the flow of blood and stomach cramps pain by using a blood dispensing mechanism and lower-abdomen-stimulating electrodes.  The video shows Takashi’s experience as he hangs out his girl pal.

What I found most interesting was that the menstruating machine is actually real!  It’s made by the highly inspirational and creative Hiromi Ozaki commonly known as Sputniko! She is half English and half Japanese and from what I’ve seen from her computer science & design educational background, she is really bright.
